Maltz Jupiter Theatre Opens Season With 'Orphans,' Running Oct. 27 Through Nov. 8
The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opens its 2026-27 season on Tuesday, October 27, with Orphans, Lyle Kessler's dark drama about two brothers and the stranger who changes their lives. The play runs on the MainStage through November 8.
The story
Treat and Phillip are orphaned brothers living in a crumbling Philadelphia rowhouse. Treat pays the bills through petty crime and keeps his younger brother sheltered from the outside world. Things change when Treat brings home Harold, a wealthy older man he intends to kidnap, who instead becomes an unlikely guide to both of them.
The play deals with family, power, dependency and the need for human connection. It premiered in 1983 and remains Kessler's best-known work.
The theatre advises that the production contains adult language and depictions of racial prejudice that some audiences may find uncomfortable.
