Pedestrian Killed by Brightline Train Near Toney Penna Drive in Jupiter

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue units responded at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, August 15, after a pedestrian was struck by a Brightline train along the Florida East Coast Railway tracks near Toney Penna Drive in Jupiter.


Paramedics pronounced the person deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.


Jupiter Police closed Old Dixie Highway in both directions between Jupiter Lakes Boulevard and Toney Penna Drive while crews responded. The road reopened by 8:15 p.m. The Jupiter Police Department is investigating and has not released the identity of the victim.


Brightline trains travel up to 79 mph between Miami and West Palm Beach, and up to 110 mph north of West Palm Beach through the Treasure Coast. The Florida East Coast Railway corridor is also shared with freight trains.
