Jupiter Farms Nonprofit Uses Rescued Horses to Help Children and Adults
There’s some pretty special work happening with horses in Jupiter Farms.
Horse Assisted Learning & Therapy — better known as H.A.L.T. — is a local nonprofit that uses rescued horses as part of therapy and educational programs for children and adults.
Based in Jupiter Farms, H.A.L.T. provides speech, occupational and physical therapy and partners with other professionals and organizations to offer mental-health therapy and educational opportunities.
The idea is to use interaction and movement with horses as another tool to help participants work toward physical, cognitive, social and emotional goals.
And the horses have stories of their own.
H.A.L.T.’s mission specifically centers on using rescued horses, giving the animals a new purpose while they help people in the community.
The organization was recently featured by CBS12 as part of its Hometown Hero series, shining a spotlight on the work taking place right here in Jupiter Farms.
Want to support them? There's a 5K next weekend.
H.A.L.T. is also getting ready for its 4th Annual HOOF it for H.A.L.T. 5K Run/Walk.
The race takes place Saturday, September 26 at Riverbend Park in Jupiter, with the 5K beginning at 7 a.m.
And you don't have to be a serious runner. It's a run/walk, with adult, military and kids registration categories as well as a virtual option.
Proceeds from the event go to Horse Assisted Learning & Therapy and support its continued programs and future events.
It's a fitting fundraiser for an organization built around horses: their slogan for the event is “Race so others can ride.”
