🌿 Jupiter Environmental Task Force Tackles Cleanups, Grants, and New Leadership

JUPITER, FL – The Town of Jupiter’s Environmental Task Force (ETF) convened for its latest meeting on June 22, 2026, delivering a packed agenda that blended new leadership, infrastructure updates, and tangible community action.

From welcoming a new member to pulling hundreds of pounds of trash out of local ecosystems, the ETF continues to demonstrate that environmental stewardship is a hands-on priority for the Riverfront community.

đź‘‹ New Faces and District Insights

The meeting kicked off with an official welcome to Rebecca Lourido, who has joined the Task Force as its newest contributing member.

Residents also received a comprehensive overview of regional waterway management, courtesy of Joe Chaison, Executive Director of the Jupiter Inlet District. Chaison presented an update on the District’s current operations and ongoing projects, highlighting the collaborative efforts required to keep Jupiter’s estuaries and waterways healthy.

đźš® Cleanup Efforts Yield Massive Results

The ETF didn’t stop at discussions—they took immediate action.

Immediate Post-Meeting Action: Following the adjournment, members and staff grabbed their gloves and trash bags for a community cleanup at the North Delaware Open Space Property.

This effort follows a recent, massive collaborative cleanup that saw Town staff, ETF members, and Palm Beach County crews remove over 300 pounds of debris from the Jones Creek Hammock and the North County Aquatic Center open spaces. The successful operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle to keep Jupiter’s natural areas pristine.

🏗️ Development & Waterfront Grants: Progress on Piatt Place

In a review of previous meeting highlights (March 2026), significant progress was reported for the highly anticipated Piatt Place Park and Riverwalk Overlook.

  • Project Scope: The new waterfront park will feature public safety docks and a scenic overlook along the Jupiter Riverwalk.
  • Funding & Connectivity: Located within the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) area, the project ties directly into the Florida SUN Trail initiative along US 1. A design grant has already been secured from the Florida Inland Navigational District to push the plans forward.

Additionally, the Town received official confirmation of a Resilient Florida planning grant for the Sawfish Bay area, which will fund a critical feasibility study to address environmental challenges in that basin.

🌸 Gardening, Freezes, and Future Blooms

The meeting also covered several quality-of-life and ecological topics:

  • Arbor Day Donation: The Jupiter Tequesta Garden Club has offered to donate a tree to the Town for Arbor Day. They are currently coordinating with the Town to determine the process for planting a new butterfly garden near the Community Center, which would add vibrant pollinator habitats to the area.

  • Cold Snap Observations: Staff reported that the recent cold snap had a surprisingly beneficial side effect: it severely impacted the invasive Dodder vine. However, task force members noted a stark contrast in plant health; properties that continued to run irrigation during the freeze suffered significantly worse plant die-offs compared to those that turned their systems off, underscoring the importance of winter water management.

đź“… Looking Ahead

The Environmental Task Force is tentatively scheduled to hold its next public meeting on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Town Hall Community Room. Residents are encouraged to attend and stay informed on Jupiter’s environmental initiatives.
