Jupiter Christian School Campus Plan Postponed After Council Split
JUPITER, Fla. — JupiterBrief
The future of nearly 57 acres east of I-95 remains uncertain this week after the Jupiter Town Council voted Tuesday night to postpone all four ordinances connected to the proposed Jupiter Christian School Legacy Campus — formerly known as the Hawkeye property.
The vote was 4–1, with Vice-Mayor Phyllis Choy and Councilors Ron Delaney, Dan Guisinger, and Malise Sundstrom voting to delay. Mayor Jim Kuretski cast the lone "no" vote.
What the plan would have done
The proposal sought two simultaneous Future Land Use Map amendments and two zoning map amendments on land generally located east of I-95, north of Jupiter Park Drive, and south of Indiantown Road:
- 18.0± acres would have changed from General Industrial with Bioscience Research Protection Overlay to High Density Residential (Future Land Use) and from Industrial, Park, Light Industry (I-1) to Residential, Limited Multifamily (R-3).
- 38.6± acres would have changed to Public Institutional on both the Future Land Use Map and the zoning map (PI district).
Together, the changes would have cleared the way for a mix of housing and institutional campus use — a significant departure from the site's industrial past.
Why the postponement?
The synopsis provided to JupiterBrief did not specify a reason for the requested delay. However, postponements of this magnitude typically occur when applicants need additional time to address staff comments, neighbor concerns, or technical revisions to the application package.
No new date for first reading has been announced.
What happens next
All four ordinances — Ordinance 21-26, Ordinance 22-26, Ordinance 23-26, and Ordinance 24-26 — remain in limbo. Once rescheduled, they will be heard as first readings. Second readings would follow at a later meeting if the first readings pass.
Jupiter Christian School and the property developer have not yet released a statement regarding the postponement.
