Judge Awards More Than $2 Million in Jupiter E-Bike Crash Lawsuit

A Palm Beach County judge has entered a $2.04 million final judgment in favor of a Jupiter mother and her son following a 2024 e-bike crash that left the then-12-year-old with serious injuries.

The crash occurred on March 29, 2024, near the Floresta Apartments off Military Trail and Indian Creek Parkway. According to court records, the child was riding an e-bike when he collided with a vehicle exiting the apartment community. He suffered significant injuries, including a fractured skull, broken jaw, and brain bleeding.

A jury found the apartment complex's owner, Northland Investment Corp., 40% responsible for the crash, while assigning 40% responsibility to the child's mother and 20% to the child. The jury initially awarded approximately $5.1 million in damages, resulting in a final judgment of about $2.04 million after Florida's comparative fault rules were applied.

The lawsuit alleged that overgrown landscaping at the apartment entrance obstructed visibility for drivers, contributing to the collision. Attorneys for the apartment owner have asked the court for a new trial, and a hearing on that request is scheduled for August 28.

The case comes as Jupiter continues to focus on e-bike safety. Town officials have expanded education and enforcement efforts following several serious crashes involving young riders in recent years.
