Eco-Grant to Rescue Sawfish Bay; El Sol Proves High ROI as Town Considers Lease Extension

JUPITER, FL — Jupiter is turning to mother nature to solve its worsening coastal flooding issues. The Town has successfully secured a $150,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to launch the Sawfish Bay Feasibility Study.

The study will explore "nature-based solutions"—specifically utilizing mangrove planters and oyster pods—to naturally reduce flooding, prevent shoreline erosion, and restore the delicate ecology of Sawfish Bay. The environmental push coincides with the town’s official celebration of Arbor Day on May 21 and National Public Works Week (May 17–23).

El Sol's Major Community Impact

In addition to environmental sustainability, the town is looking to secure the future of its social infrastructure. The Town Council is currently considering a five-year lease amendment for El Sol, Jupiter’s Neighborhood Resource Center located at 106 Military Trail.

A recent economic report highlighted the massive return on investment the center provides to the local community. According to data, for every $1 invested, El Sol creates $8 of social and economic value for the Town of Jupiter, making it a critical asset for local labor, integration, and community support.

Daycare Expansion Paused

In local development news, parents waiting on a proposed new childcare option will have to wait a bit longer. The public hearing for the proposed Planet Kids Daycare—a new facility slated for a 1.4-acre site at 6910 174th St N—has been officially postponed. The hearing, which will also look into the voluntary annexation of the property into the Town of Jupiter, is now scheduled for July 7, 2026.

Want to attend? Residents looking to stay informed or speak on these issues can attend the upcoming Town Council Meetings at 7:00 PM in the Town Council Chambers on June 2, 2026, and June 16, 2026.
