Driver Killed After Honda Civic Hits Box Truck and Catches Fire on I-95 North of Jupiter — Road Closed for 7 Hours
A fatal crash on Interstate 95 just north of Jupiter shut down northbound lanes for more than seven hours Tuesday morning before the road finally reopened around 11 AM.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a Honda Civic struck the back of a box truck at approximately 3:30 AM in the northbound lanes of I-95 just inside Martin County, near the Palm Beach-Martin County line. The collision caused the car to catch fire. The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck was not injured.
The cause of the crash and the identity of the deceased driver had not been released as of Tuesday morning. FHP said the investigation is ongoing.
For drivers who commute north on I-95 through that corridor regularly — between Jupiter and Stuart, or toward Port St. Lucie — the stretch at the county line is a familiar one. The overnight closure affected early-morning commuters and freight traffic before lanes were cleared and reopened.
