After 40 Years of After-School Programs, Jupiter Nonprofit Opens Its Own Elementary School
JUPITER, Fla. – The Edna W. Runner Education Center, a longtime pillar of support for local youth, is expanding its mission by opening a new, independent elementary school this August.
The school will launch with Kindergarten and 1st grade, adding one grade level each year to ultimately serve students through 5th grade. Enrollment is now open, and all students are required to have a Step Up Scholarship.
Small Classes, Whole-Child Focus
The new school is designed to address gaps in traditional public-school settings by offering small class sizes, a co-teacher model, and personalized instruction. The curriculum emphasizes literacy through the UFLI program, STEM, art, music, Spanish, physical education, and social-emotional learning.
“Our program was created to provide students with personalized attention, strong academic foundations, and a supportive learning environment while working alongside families,” the center’s website states.
Daily Schedule & Support
The school day runs from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with free breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided. Morning transportation is included, and aftercare is available until 5:00 p.m. Students will also enjoy monthly field trips and technology integration.
Background
Founded in 1986, the Edna W. Runner Education Center has long served at-risk youth through after-school programs, camps, and character development. Director of Education Maria Lloyd, a former Palm Beach County principal, is leading the expansion.
