A 350-Pound Catch at Jupiter Inlet, Circa 1910

Long before Jupiter Inlet became the familiar boating and fishing destination we know today, fishermen were already landing some remarkable catches here.

This photo from around 1910 shows a group of fishermen at Jupiter Inlet with a massive goliath grouper estimated to weigh between 350 and 360 pounds.

The image offers a fascinating look at Jupiter more than a century ago, when the area looked very different but fishing was already part of life around the inlet.

Goliath groupers are one of the largest reef fish found in Florida waters and can grow to extraordinary sizes. Seeing one photographed on the shores of Jupiter Inlet gives us a small glimpse into both the area's fishing history and the marine life that has long called our local waters home.

More than 100 years later, Jupiter Inlet remains one of the defining places in our community, although you're unlikely to see a scene quite like this one today.
